David Lynch to Return to TV
TV Gen, Tuesday, January 12, 1999

PASADENA, CA: It's been more than a decade since David Lynch brought his unique sensibilities to TV with ABC's Twin Peaks, but he'll give it another shot in the near future on the same network with a drama called Mulholland Drive.

Details were scarce at the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday, but ABC Entertainment president Jamie Tarses said the show will be based in and around the Los Angeles area with some characters involved in show business. It will not, she stressed, be about the entertainment industry alone.

Like Twin Peaks, the show will boast a large cast, but unlike Lynch's other ABC show, it will aim to retain its audience after its big debut. Tarses and ABC Entertainment chairman Stu Bloomberg acknowledged that Twin Peaks generated a lot of attention when it debuted, but saw its audience interest drop off sharply. Lynch has the series "mapped out," Bloomberg said, and Tarses added that Lynch indicated he'd do Twin Peaks differently today."
