Floating down the lost highway

The cabin next to a dry lakebed is burning in reverse.

Pete and Alice drive up to a ONE ROOM CABIN built on stilts next to a dry lakebed. They both get out and go up the stairs to a porch where Alice knocks on the door. There is no answer.

Alice opens the door, but there is NOBODY INSIDE.

Alice: We'll have to wait.

Pete: Why me, Alice? Why choose me?
Alice: So we can be together... You still want to be with me, don't you Pete?

More than ever...

She kisses Pete over and over. He begins to kiss her back. She starts to move him in a dance to the music in the glare of the headlights, the hot wind caressing them.

The scene is out of a dream. Alice and Pete help each other undress as they dance in and out of the light, and the wind whips at their bodies.

On the floating, shipless oceans I did all my best to smile
'til your singing eyes and fingers
drew me loving to your isle.

And you sang "Sail to me, sail to me
Let me enfold you."

Here I am. Here I am. Waiting to hold you...

Did I dream you dreamed about me?
Were you here when I was full sail?
Now my foolish boat is leaning, broken love lost on your rocks.

For you sang, "Touch me not, touch me not, come back tomorrow."
Oh my heart, oh my heart shies from the sorrow.

I'm as puzzled as a newborn child.
I'm as riddled as the tide.
Should I stand amid the breakers?
Or shall I lie with death my bride?
Hear me sing: "Swim to me, swim to me, let me enfold you."
"Here I am. Here I am, waiting to hold you."

Pete: I want you Alice... I want you...

Alice: You'll nerver have me.

She turns and walks, naked, to the cabin where she disappears within it.
